The second outbreak in Beijing has spread to more than half of the city, with at least 28 residential communities managed under closure. The Xinfadi wholesale food market, where the outbreak occurred, is the largest wholesale market for vegetables and subsidiary foodstuffs in Asia. It has a lot of daily traffic and there are a large number of surrounding residents. Beijing residents are worried that the epidemic will be difficult to control.
According to CCP officials, the outbreak began on June 11 in Xinfadi, Beijing and by June 15 had spread to nine districts, which is more than half of Beijing’s 16 districts and counties. It is also seen in Liaoning, Hebei, and Sichuan provinces. Meanwhile, Beijing’s inter-provincial expressways began to be closed.
