CHINA—On the morning of Jan. 27, a father in Beijing, who was addicted to Internet games, murdered his 18-year-old son in a rage for refusing him access to a computer to play video games.

According to a Beijing News report, blood was spread from the sixth floor to the first floor. A resident in the building said he heard noises on the stairs early that morning, went out to investigate and was surprised to discover the tragedy.

It was reported that during the night, Liao knocked on his son’s room door and ask if he could come in to play games on the computer. His son refused. An argument broke out, and in anger Liao forced himself into his son’s room. The argument then got very violent. Liao took out a knife and attacked his son with it. His wife called the police and ambulance, but before the police arrived Liao had disappeared

The victim was in a critical condition. He had two wounds on either side of his neck and the main artery was severed. Thus, he lost a lot of blood and later died in hospital. His mother was so shocked she could not even cry. The father later gave himself up to the police. Neighbors said they would often hear arguments coming from Liao’s apartment in the middle of night.

Liao was a former employee at the Post Office. He lost his job several years ago and it caused the family a lot of financial difficulties. Since being unemployed, Liao became more and more irritable and violent. About a year ago, Liao became addicted to Internet games and spent a lot of time and money on it. His wife and son often argued with him about his addiction. Many times, the neighbors tried to stop the arguments.
