Seeing a wild black bear from afar can be a sight to behold, but to stumble across the big and furry animal up close, it’d be scary! That’s what happened to one UPS delivery man while he was delivering a package to one north Asheville home.

Encountering bears is an everyday occurrence for Marcy Lanier, who lives in north Asheville, western North Carolina.

Bear sightings are common in western North Carolina as the bear population is around 6,000 to 8,000. And in Asheville, there are “hundreds,” Mike Carraway, wildlife biologist for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, told the Charlotte Observer.

So, Lanier has always come across bears hanging around her home, eating her blueberry bushes.

“They have been in my garage by opening my door,” Lanier wrote for Love What Matters. “They went into a neighbor’s car. We even had one bear put his head through our dog door! These bears are super smart!”

Our neighborhood friends came to visit!!

These bears are smart and oftentimes adorable, but they can be scary too!

On one Friday, Lanier came home to find an unusual delivery note in her mailbox.

On the note, the UPS delivery man scrawled, “Bear in driveway.”

Like I say. Only in Asheville!:)

Lanier ascertained a bear in the driveway had prevented the delivery man from leaving the package on her porch.

“We get bears all the time,” Lanier told WLOS. “He normally drops my packages on my front porch.”

Rather than dropping the package at her front door, he left it in the mailbox that is situated at the entrance of her driveway.

The hilarious explanation had Lanier laughing!

Thinking it was funny, Lanier snapped a photo of the delivery note and shared it on Facebook.

“Like I say. Only in Asheville!” she wrote.

And she was right! The photo went viral and has left many people in stitches.

“I laughed until I cried on this one!” one Facebook user wrote.

“I woulda wrestled that bear and delivered that package,” another chimed in.

There were some social media users who cast doubts on the story; however, UPS verified the account was true to the Charlotte Observer.

How’d this amusing story make you feel? The main thing was no UPS deliverymen were harmed in the delivery of the package!
