The Bates family is getting a new television show following the cancellation of the short-lived United Bates of America.

Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, who live in Tennessee, are parents to 19 children. They are perhaps best known for being friends with the Duggar family, the stars of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting.

United Bates of America aired on TLC in the fall of 2012, but only lasted for a couple of weeks.

The new show, Bringing Up Bates, will kick off on UP TV on January 1, 2015.

“From the babies to momentous birthdays, purity rings to newlyweds, adult children setting up their households to the busy hive of the family Home, the Bates family proves there is more to love,” according to the description.

“The Bates do everything in bulk while staying true to their values and rules for the family -- which means everyone has chores, little to no TV, only dresses for girls (though pajamas are worn in private), strictly side-hugs until marriage (except for front hugs on special occasions), and more. With a grand total of 19 children ranging in age from two to 25, they are the definition of a ‘big, happy family.’ But lately -- as viewers will see -- their simple rural lifestyle in Tennessee is in a flurry of transitions.”

The Duggar family has grown increasingly popular as the older children get engaged, married, and have children, likely prompting another try to for a Bates show.

The new show will explore the family as Gil, 49, and Kelly Jo, 47, celebrate the birth of their first grandchild with son Zach and his wife Whitney, and the family gets to know Brandon Keilen, who is in a courtship with Michaella.

Erin and her new husband Chad Paine also hope to start a family soon, while Alyssa moves to Florida with her new husband John Webster.

Gil runs a tree service along with three of his sons to support the family, while Kelly Jo is a stay-at-home mother.
