Here’s some good news: The BART strike is over, per an update given by unions late Monday night.
Trains will resume on Tuesday.
A tentative agreement was reached between management and the unions.
“We’re grateful we’re here. But mark my word, if there’s any lesson learned, it’s that this can never happen again,” said Lt. Governor Gavin Newsome.
He said that part of the new contract deals with re-building trust between the parties so that another strike doesn’t happen.
Grace Crunican, general manager at BART, said that there will be no details tonight about the points of the deal until the union leaders discuss the points with the union members.
“This offer is more than we wanted to pay, but it is also a new path in terms of a partnership with our workers,” she said. “We compromised to get to this place, as did our union members.”
Trains will hopefully be running in time for the afternoon commute, but will not be running in time for the morning commute.
Union membership still has to vote on the contract to make it official.
