It took firefighters about 40 minutes to put out a fire in Bay Point on the evening of Sept. 16 that started with a barbecue unit and spread to an adjacent building, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection captain said.

The two-alarm fire at 57 Water St. in the unincorporated community of Bay Point west of Pittsburg was called in at 5:20 p.m., said fire Capt. Lisa Martinez. An explosion was reported, and Martinez said that may have been the barbecue unit’s propane tank.

The barbecue was fully involved, and the flames spread to the exterior an adjacent house, Martinez said.

No one was injured, said Martinez, who added that the reason the barbecue unit caught fire had not been established by tonight.
