LONDON—Shen Yun Performing Arts met with the enthusiastic applause and cheers of the full house at the end of its third night in London’s West End.

Shen Yun’s hallmark displays of classical Chinese dance stunned the audience in London’s Barbican Centre, located just a stone’s throw from the capital’s financial district.

One of those making the short hop from the City to take in the performance was trade bank Chief Operating Officer Richard Wailes.

“I thought it was terrific, very, very good, very entertaining” he said. “It was definitely worth coming.”

Classical Chinese dance, alongside ballet, is one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world, requiring mastery of a vast array of technical elements, including tumbling and spinning techniques that take years to develop.

Mr Wailes said he was highly impressed with the skills that the performers brought to the stage. They had “extremely wonderful technique,” he said.

Mr Wailes, COO at Intercontinental Bank, UK, said he was most struck by the use colours.

Shen Yun’s brightly coloured costumes are one of the performances unique features. The Shen Yun website says the costume designers aim for “an authentic presentation of the attire that comes from China’s divinely inspired traditional culture, and a consummate stage effect.”

He said that the performances had inspired him to learn more about China and Chinese culture.
