A lightning strike reportedly injured two people at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, which was shut down on Thursday after a lightning strike. A control tower was hit during a storm.
UPDATE: The airport was reopened on Thursday afternoon after the FAA approved it.
CBS Baltimore reported that two people “appear to have been injured in an apparent lightning strike on the control tower.” NBC Washington said that a worker who struck by lightning was trying to turn off equipment.
Reports said the airport might be reopened at 6 p.m. after the necessary repairs are made.
Arriving and departing flights have been grounded, reported the Baltimore Sun.
Long lines at the airport have been reported.
A severe weather watch was issued for Central Maryland until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
More storms are possible through the evening.
The Baltimore airport is one of the most trafficked airports in the country.
