An eight-month old baby girl starved to death in Jiangsu Province, Yancheng City in June this year after police arrested her mother, a Falun Gong practitioner, and left the baby. According to a non-government source, a neighbor discovered this tragedy and alerted the police after seeing maggots from the baby’s corpse crawling outside the gate.

Baby Starves to Death, Over 30 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested

According to reliable sources, Yancheng City authorities discovered many copies of the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” in mid-June this year, and panicked. The 610 Office and police collaborated to search the residences of local Falun Gong practitioners without warning. They arrested anyone who had copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party.

It is estimated that over 30 Falun Gong practitioners were secretly arrested. Ms. Gu, a 28-year-old practitioner, was raising her eight-month old baby girl by herself because her husband worked out of town most of the time. The police forcefully took Gu away, leaving the baby at home alone. As a result the child starved to death and the corpse decomposed in the hot weather.

Police Conceal the News, the Mother’s Whereabouts Unknown

The police informed Ms. Gu’s husband what had happened when he returned home, after the scene had been cleaned up. When the husband asked to see his wife, the police told him that the case has been determined to be a political case, and so he wasn’t allowed to see his wife at the moment. Ms. Gu's husband was too scared to say anything.

The neighbors who knew the story did not dare discuss the matter. The whereabouts of more than 30 arrested Falun Gong practitioners, including the baby’s mother, are still not known. Families have even been forced to pay 240 Yuan per month to the 610 Office and the police for 'board expenses'. When the family asked where they were, the police refused to say. Our source said that after the arrests the police put out a message that there would be a reward of 10,000 Yuan for reports of copies of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Any report exposing the gathering of two or more Falun Gong practitioners would be awarded 300 Yuan.

Ms. Liao Shiying, a 56-year-old Falun Gong practitioner, was among the practitioners arrested this year. She was arrested because the authorities found that a stamp on an envelope in her home was the same as the stamp on an envelope found in a local post office which contained a copy of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Liao’s whereabouts is currently unknown.
