A family said that their daughter stopped breathing for eight minutes soon after she was born prematurely.
After eight minutes, doctors saw a heartbeat, and three minutes after that, it was fully established, the Mirror noted.
A team of medical professionals used an “ice body suit” to prevent brain damage, and now the girl has made a full recovery, the report stated. The cooling suit was used for three days to prevent long-lasting damage.
“It was definitely the worst experience of my life. It was just horrendous. Just lying there helpless, not hearing our baby cry. Yeah – it was unbearable,” Bex Forrest, her mother, told the network.
During her pregnancy, “It was a perfectly healthy, normal nine months up until when I went into labor,” she told the Mirror. “Even when I went to have a C section it was planned because I just hadn’t been progressing for four days.”
“I was so drugged up I didn’t realize, but after 15 minutes it turned into an emergency C section because Willow’s heart-rate suddenly dropped,” she added. “All these people suddenly came rushing in so I was aware something was wrong.”
When doctors delivered the child, Forrest said she couldn’t hear any crying. “Why isn’t she crying?’” she recalled asking them.
“Everybody expects to hear their baby cry when they are born and the longer it went on the worse it got,” she said. “It was the worst feeling in the world. [Husband’ Martin was amazing, he was telling me it would all be OK.”
In the suit, her body temperature was cooled to 91.4 degrees F for three days.
The girl has since made a full recovery.
“She didn’t cry for four weeks. Because she had so many tubes and they hurt her throat, she didn’t know how to cry,” Forrest recalled. “It’s strange, but all we wanted was to hear our baby cry.”
“Now she does plenty of that though,” he said.
“She has just been amazing in her recovery. We have been told there is still a risk that she could suffer developmental issues, but so far she is perfectly fine,” father Martin told The Mirror. “Now she’s just a perfectly healthy baby.”
Mom Gives Birth to Baby on Staircase
A pregnant mother gave birth on a set of stairs in Orange County, California, about two weeks after she learned she was pregnant with twins.
The baby’s father, Samir Rai, helped deliver the baby on the staircase, NBC Los Angeles reported. The birth took place in mid-May.
Paramedics responded to the family’s house in Tustin at around 8:50 a.m. to find the father holding the baby.
“My wife was yelling and screaming, ‘I’m having a baby!’ And I said, ‘We’re going to the hospital,’” Samir Rai told the NBC affiliate. “And she said, ‘no, I’m having it right now.’”
Rai said his wife, Jasmine, only learned she was pregnant with two babies instead of one just a few weeks ago.
During the delivery, the father said he saw a baby’s head pop out and had to help deliver the child on the spot. “The head was popping out of her. I had to pull the baby out of her,” Samir told ABC7. “At the same time, I called 911 on speaker phone.”
