LOS ANGELES—Shen Yun Performing Arts brought 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to life at The Music Center on Jan. 13, from ancient warring dynasties to the present day, and Michael Eliasberg, former attorney, founder and president of Avenue Entertainment attended the performance. He said the underlying connections he saw were “very interesting.”
“I liked it very much. Very beautiful, athletic, graceful. There was an innocence and underlying sense of spiritual depth that was very appealing,” Mr. Eliasberg said.
“It seems that the animated portion that connects with Chinese mythology, but it seemed contemporary,” Mr. Eliasberg said of Shen Yun’s digitally projected backdrops enhancing the storytelling in the dances. Vibrant scenes of China and of heavenly realms accompany the performances, and divine beings from ancient stories appear from the heavens and onto the stage.
“It felt like people were expressing underlying decency as they were interacting on the stage and dancing.” He said he clearly saw “the repressive forces of the government and the more spiritually active forces of the people. Very interesting.” He was describing the repression of the freedom of belief in present-day China, and the fact that the traditional arts and values as Shen Yun presents them are not able to be shown in China today.
“I enjoyed it. I think other people would enjoy it. I’m glad I came.”
