WASHINGTON, D.C.—Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, impressed audiences from all walks of life on Feb 1.
Yuri Kerrins, a contractor for the federal government, was thoroughly impressed with Shen Yun when he viewed the Friday evening performance at the Kennedy Opera House.
“Oh it’s great! … It’s a combination with the classical and the animation. I wish that I could bring our five grandchildren to see it. I think they would really like it.”
Mr. Kerrins was referring to the state-of-the-art graphics technology which Shen Yun has developed. “The digital projection infinitely expands and transforms the stage,” says the Shen Yun website.
The backdrops can transport one to completely different realms. The landscapes shown are often spectacular and complement the mood projected in the story or dance performed by Shen Yun’s talented dancers.
“Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one,” according to the Shen Yun website.
Mr. Kerrins observed that many people normally know China by its “Made in China” products, that is, the materialistic side of China. He said the difference with the performance is that it is “classical and it’s not really materialistic or [has] a profit making value that’s behind it.”
“I’m glad that it’s here and I’m glad we got to come on date night,” Mr. Kerrins said.
Shen Yun, which has a mission to revive China’s 5,000 year old divinely inspired culture, is independent of the communist regime in China, and is based in New York.
