AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Ken Buchly and his wife Bev were delighted to attend Shen Yun Performing Arts on Saturday evening at the ASB Theatre in Auckland, April 21.

Both have had an avid interest in Chinese culture. Ken said that he really enjoyed the occasion, especially the fact that it’s based on China’s 5,000-years of Chinese traditional culture. “It was nice to witness it first hand,” he said.

Mrs. Buchly found the performance very enlightening acknowledging the importance of learning about other cultures and to know what is happening within their society.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a music and dance company based in New York. The aim of the company is to revive the traditional Chinese culture, almost destroyed over some 60 years of communist rule, through story dances adapted from antiquity to the China of today.

They were both taken with the dance segment Snowflakes Welcoming Spring which depicts the end of winter and the birth of spring.

Mr. Buchly was delighted with the organisation of the whole performance, he said.

Mrs. Buchly thought the backdrops were absolutely amazing saying the animated characters in the backdrop came to life as they bounced up onto the stage as live performers. She found the brief explanation given prior to each individual performance by emcees in both English and Mandarin was very helpful.

Shen Yun Orchestra combines musical traditions of both East and West resulting in a fresh and mesmerising sound.

Mrs. Buchly said it was great to listen to a live orchestra, “It was excellent, it was a wonderful, great combination.”

She said that everyone should attend Shen Yun. “The artistry and whole thing, the backdrops, the dancing, the clothing, the whole works was absolutely amazing.”
