In the latest ASUU strike update, Aminu Tambuwal, the speaker of the house of representatives, said that Parliament is ready to amend laws to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Tambuwal said that Parliament will amend any portion of any law to grant any request, reported the Vanguard.

“If there is any need for further appropriations to be made or any law to be amended to meet any of these conditions, the House of Representatives is faithfully ready to expeditious address such requests,” he said. “Please, we need our students back to their respective schools. I so plead.”

“This followed the presentation of the investigative report presented by the House Committee on Education on the floor of the House,” it reported.

Tambuwal said that all concerned parties should reconsider their positions, in the interest of the students, and the future of education.

The union has been on strike since July 1, because, its leaders say, the government has failed to meet demands outlined in an agreement between the union and the government made in 2009.
