DALLAS— “I’m really impressed. I’m glad we came,” said artist William Fegan after watching Shen Yun dancers at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas on Jan. 3.
Through brilliantly choreographed dance and mesmerizing orchestral compositions, Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New-York based company, aims to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture.
Mr. Fegan, owner of Fegan Fine Art Restoration, does art conservation work in Dallas. His occupation is also dedicated to the preservation of cultural legacy. “Creating fine antiques is an art, and so is restoring them,” his company website notes.
However, it wasn’t only the Shen Yun dancers that impressed Mr. Fegan.
“The costumes were incredible,” he said. “They were so bright and crisp.”
He also called the choreography fantastic and beautiful. “I love the complexity of the original dance, the traditional dance,” he said, noting that the dancers must have spent a lot of time make such difficult dances look so effortless. “They’re quite good athletes.”
In addition to the inspiring dances and music, the Shen Yun production also incorporates brilliant costumes and props, all set to spectacular landscapes illustrated on a digital backdrop.
“I’ve never seen anything done like that before, where it’s integrated with the dance itself,” Mr. Fegan said of the backdrop. “It was synchronized really well.”
For Mr. Fegan, Shen Yun was more than just a treat for himself.
“We brought our children with us. We wanted them to see something that’s different,” he said.
