Middle school lockdown: The lockdown of a middle school in Minnesota likely was a hoax, a police official said.
A middle school in Minnesota was locked down on Wednesday morning after a 911 caller said there was a shooter on the campus. But Scott County Sheriff Kevin Studnicka said that the phone call appears to be a hoax, reported The Associated Press.
The man called 911 saying that a gunman with an AK-47 rifle was in a school building, and he claimed there were a few victims.
Studnicka said that all staff and students at the middle school and high shool in New Prague are safe after the schools were placed under a “code red” lockdown, according to Fox News.
He said that there is no evidence of a shooter and no one was hurt, according to AP.
“We are giving the all clear in New Prague,” he told Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Laura Knoke of New Prague Middle School confirmed Studnicka’s comments with the Star-Tribune. She said, “All students and staff are safe.”
“Officers are checking every room,” she told the paper. “Nothing else is going on. We are just in a lockdown, and the officers are checking the building.”
New Prague is located around 45 miles southwest of Minneapolis. Its middle school has around 875 students.
The Star-Tribune reported that last month, a 15-year-old student was charged with making terroristic threats at the New Prague High School after the high school found a note claiming there was a bomb in the school bathroom.
Fox reported that students at the middle school were sent home for the day at 10:30 a.m.
