BOSTON—Award-winning artist Nina Jordan and her husband John, an electrical engineer, were delighted to see Shen Yun Performing Arts on Tuesday night, Feb. 12, at the Boston Opera House. It was the first time they had experienced a performance by the classical Chinese dance and music company, which is based in New York and now on its seventh world tour.
“I love the show. It’s lovely, beautiful. I love the music, the costumes, the dancing, the singing—just really nice,” said Mrs. Jordan.
A member of the Framingham Artists’ Guild and several area art associations and societies, Mrs. Jordan has won numerous awards and prizes for her oils and pastels.
Mr. Jordan also loved everything about the performance, but especially enjoyed the dancing. “It’s so wonderful seeing them moving together. That’s my favorite part,” he said.
According to the Shen Yun website, classical Chinese dance “has become a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles with its unique dance movements, rhythms, and inner meaning.” It is “grounded in 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture.”
The couple thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and animation projected on a state-of-the-art digital-backdrop screen throughout the performance.
“Oh, that’s fantastic, beautiful scenery! Beautiful scenery. I love all the scenery. I’ve never seen that,” Mrs. Jordan said about the backdrop.
Her husband also liked it and said that it “Coordinates the people with the background. First time I’ve ever seen something like that.”
They were particularly fascinated by the backdrop in the dance Sand Monk Is Blessed, which is based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. The dancers “jump into the scene and they jump out,” Mrs. Jordan, said. “Really, I’ve never seen something that that. It’s very interesting!”
