Oakland Athletics v New York Yankees

Hiroki Kuroda gave up five runs, four earned, in five and two-thirds innings Sunday as the Yankees (88-64) lost to Oakland (86-66) 5–4 to snap the team’s seven-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the Yankees maintained a one game lead over Baltimore, which lost at Boston on Sunday.

Kuroda (14-11) took the loss, leaving the game with the Yankees down 5–4 in the sixth inning. The 37-year-old allowed a run in the first off a wild pitch and then two more in the second off a two-run home run by Oakland second baseman Cliff Pennington.

The Yankees took the lead back with a four-run fourth inning highlighted by a two-run home run courtesy of Nick Swisher.

Oakland though tied it in the fifth on a pair of singles, a walk, and another wild pitch. Pennington singled home a run in the sixth that turned out to be the difference in the game.
