NEW YORK – The thousands of Army cadets who filled the left field bleachers at Yankee Stadium on Saturday left the Bronx disappointed after Rutgers University poured the offense on late, defeating the Black Knights 27-12.
Rutgers’ coach Greg Schiano said after the game, “It was a fun football game to be a part of. I thought our kids did great.”
Prior to the game, Rutgers’ Eric LeGrand wheeled himself onto the field for the coin toss. “I got excited out there, started getting the goosebumps,” he said during a second quarter interview.
A little over a year ago LeGrand was paralyzed against Army during a game at the Meadowlands. Doctors said he would never walk again, but this past week he walked on a treadmill for 60 minutes. He still uses a motorized wheelchair, but is making great strides in his rehabilitation. “This has been the best year of my life by how many people I have been able to touch.”
