German archaeologists found two pairs of pants 3 000 to 3 300 years old. They were on remains of two men buried in a cemetery in Xinjiang, China. That makes them the oldest pairs of pants ever found.

The ancient pants had straight-fitting legs and a wide crotch resembling typical riding pants that can be still purchase today. They were created from three pieces of wool cloth and decorated with intricate patterns.

Victor Mair, professor from University of Pennsylvania remarked that this new finding supports the idea that trousers were invented for horse riding by mobile pastoralists.

The pants were giving riders freedom of movement and protection.

It seems as though horse riders were the first people to put on a pair of pants one leg at a time, just like we do today.
