DALLAS—The Dallas audience welcomed Shen Yun Performing Arts’ second performance of the 2012 world tour with enthusiastic applause at the Winspear Opera House Saturday evening, Dec. 17.
Ms. Tanya Roberts, who is on the Board of Trustees for the Winspear Opera House, felt the New York-based company’s presentation of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization was spiritual and calming.
“I felt at peace, very much at peace,” Ms. Roberts said. “I think it was the beauty of the dancers, their expressions, and how peaceful and calm each and every one of them made me feel, throughout the experience, through all the pieces. The dancing was truly gentle and soft.”
Ms. Roberts was intrigued by the stories told in many of the dances.
“It’s such a learning experience. I knew very little about Classical Chinese dance, and this is marvelous, it truly is,” Ms. Roberts said.
“Not knowing much about Chinese history, [it’s] very easy to understand, and it makes me want to know more, it truly does.”
Shen Yun’s dances include classical Chinese dance, ethnic, and folk dances from the different regions and dynasties of China.
“The dancers are phenomenal and the costumes are just absolutely beautiful,” Ms. Roberts said. “They are so well choreographed. Everything is very precise, and quite beautiful.”
