Windows 8.1 is here. The big question on everyone’s mind is, “Should I upgrade?”
That depends. If you’re mostly concerned about staying up to date with the newest patches, fixes, features, etc. then yes, you most certainly should upgrade to Windows 8.1. This is especially true if you’re using Windows 8.
You should also upgrade if you are a touch-screen user, for Windows 8 is built to be touch-screen friendly.
If staying up-to-date and touch-screen functionality doesn’t matter to you much, and you are using Windows 7, then you probably shouldn’t upgrade. For users who don’t care about learning a whole new operating system or who don’t want to learn a whole new operating system, Windows 8 should be avoided.
Microsoft said that Windows 8.1 brought back the Start button, which initially interested us. But, as it turns out, they brought the button back, but not the Start Menu that is supposed to go along with it! That’s right, the Start button on the familiar desktop does not bring up the familiar Start Menu. Instead, it brings up the tile oriented, touch-screen friendly Start Screen (see image above). If you aren’t interested in toying with or learning a new operating system, then this will give you a headache.
Of course, for those users on tablets, Windows 8.1 is the way to go.
