After 40 days of political gridlock, lawmakers in the U.S. Senate on Sunday evening invoked cloture on a deal to reopen the federal government, clearing the way to end the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
Technically, the shutdown hasn’t ended yet, as the House still needs to vote on the Senate-passed package. That’s scheduled for this evening.
