If you have ever wondered why the famous scene from that movie feels suspiciously familiar, before Googling influences from the ‘French Wave,’ try a few centuries further back.

You might be surprised to learn that some of the greatest movie scenes were inspired by famous paintings. Botticelli’s iconic ‘Birth of Venus’ might be easier to recognize in a movie, but there are many other classical paintings that helped these films become so memorable.

Filmmaker Vugar Efendi shows in his video beautiful discoveries of the real “behind the scenes,” including sets from Django Unchained by Tarantino (2012) or Ridley Scott’s The Duellists (1977). It’s a dual pleasure when film meets art.
