A student was shot outside West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida on Wednesday.
The student who was shot is alert and being transported to the hospital, principal Douglas Szcinskithe said in a phone message to parents and on Facebook. The victim is in stable condition.
The shooting happened around 1:15 p.m., reported ClickOrlando.
Orange County police said that the 17-year-old suspect is in custody as of 4:07 p.m.
The school was briefly placed under lockdown but most students were gone because of early dismissal. The remaining students are being taken to Ocoee High School for pick-up.
Winter Garden is west of Orlando.
