Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander unanimously won the American League Cy Young award on Tuesday, wrapping up a career year.

“I’ve worked extremely hard for this,” Verlander said on the Tiger’s website. “If you had told me at the beginning of the year that I was going to be a shoo-in for the Cy Young, I would have been absolutely ecstatic and amazed.”

Verlander also won the Triple Crown, leading the AL in wins (24), ERA (2.40), and strikeouts (250). The righty, who was drafted by the Tigers in 2004, also threw his second career no-hitter this season on May 7 against Toronto.

Verlander is beginning to rack up the personal accolades; however a World Series ring still eludes him. The Tigers made it all the way to the ALCS before being eliminated by the Texas Rangers.
