Usain Bolt, the Olympic gold medal-winning Jamaican sprinter, will wear a uniform made by the daughter of reggae legend Bob Marley for the 2012 London games.
Cedella Marley, the eldest daughter of Bob and Rita Marley, will design the uniforms for the Jamaican track and field team during the 2012 London Olympics. Not only Bolt will wear the uniform, but the entire team.
“We both break records,” Marley told The Associated Press in a phone interview. “Marleys. Bolt. Legendary.”
Bolt is the world record holder for the 100 and 200 meter races.
Marley, a fashion designer and author, was chosen by athletic apparel and shoe company Puma to create the uniforms.
“I can’t think of a better person to design our Olympic outfits than Cedella,” Bolt said in a statement on the company’s website. “Puma got that right ... hooking up with a legendary Jamaican.”
Marley told AP that she got her inspiration for the uniforms from music and the culture of Jamaica during the 1970s and 1980s.
“She’s a great designer but also carries on the spirit of our nation through the legacy of the Marley family,” Bolt added. “It’s going to be inspirational to run in London with that energy surrounding me.”
Marley’s designs will be showcased for the first time at the IAAF World Championships of Track and Field in Korea in August.
