The U.S. women’s Olympic Artistic Gymnastics team of Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, Mc Kayla Maroney, Alexandra Raisman, and Kyla Ross showed their skills in the best possible fashion, beating the best of the rest of the world’s gymnasts at the London 2012 Olympic Games Tuesday.
“It’s the best feeling in the world,” Raisman told LATimes.com. “It’s a dream come true and I’m so excited. I can’t believe it.”
The day’s competition started with the vault and the U.S. started out with a nearly perfect vault by McKayla Maroney who scored 16.233 out of a possible 16.5.
That set the tone for the team, which performed well in every discipline, earning the highest score in three out of four events. The teens—the youngest only 15, the oldest 18—won floor exercise, vault, and balance beam, coming in third in uneven bars.
The U.S. scored 183.596 points; second place Russia trailed by 5.066 points. Romania took the bronze. Defending champions China finished fourth.
