A recent U.S. strike on a boat full of alleged drug runners marks a deadly new turn in President Donald Trump’s efforts to counter Latin American criminal organizations. Touting the strike on the drug boat in a Sept. 2 social media post, Trump asserted that Tren de Aragua—the criminal organization suspected of running the drug boat—was controlled by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
“Earlier this morning, on my Orders, U.S. Military Forces conducted a kinetic strike against positively identified Tren de Aragua Narcoterrorists in the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility,” Trump wrote.
