GOP front-runner Donald Trump had admitted that it “was a mistake” for him to have post an unflattering photo of the wife of his rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz.

GOP frontrunner Donald Trump had admitted that it “was a mistake” for him to have post an unflattering photo of the wife of his rival, Texas Senator Ted Cruz. 

“Yeah, it was a mistake,” Trump told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. “If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t have sent it.” 

Last month, Trump posted a picture of Heidi Cruz next to a picture of his own wife, Melania, on Twitter, with the caption “A picture says a thousand words.” 

The picture of Melania was a sleek and professional, where the one of Heidi Cruz was closer to a photo-bomb, and the tweet was taken as an insult to Heidi Cruz’s looks. 

The tweet even drew criticism from stalwart Trump supporters like Ann Coulter, who compared Trump to a 16-year old that you had to bail out of jail. 

Trump partially excuses the tweet by arguing that Cruz “did it first,” referring to a campaign ad that displayed a nude picture of Melania Trump, who had posed for GQ magazine before she was Mrs. Trump, urging voters to support Ted Cruz. 

The ad was ran by a super-PAC founded by Republican consultant Liz Mair, who is not associated with the Cruz campaign. Cruz had denounced the ad attacking Melania after it was first released.
