Troy David Whisnant has been killed after he was identified as the suspect in Burke County, North Carolina on Wednesday in two murders.
Whisnant is believed to have killed his parents, who were found dead inside their home on Fish Hatchery Road.
Whisnant killed a federal forestry officer during the manhunt for him, officials told WBTV.
Shots were fired originally when deputies responded to the home. It's not clear when the shots that killed the suspect and the officer were fired.
Records show that the suspect has a long cirminal history dating back to at least 1996.
A neighbor of the couple said that her home was broken into and several guns are missing.
The 38-year-old had been venting on Facebook, saying that he's "not in a good place."
"Why is it that you take everything in life that you love and take it for granted?I have nothing left and am not in a good place. Please keep me in your prayers," he said about two weeks ago.
Whisnant's parents have been missing since Friday, reported AP.
A vehicle was missing from the property.
There was a sign of a struggle around the couple's dead bodies.
