Trenton Thunder “bat dog” Chase has died this week after helping he New Jersey minor league baseball team for 11 years, according to reports.
“We lost a very important member of our family today...our beloved Bat Dog, CHASE-That Golden Thunder has passed away at the age of 13,” the team tweeted on Tuesday.
The golden retriever team mascot died on Monday days after celebrating his birthday
“Chase was such a tremendous part of the Trenton Thunder identity for more than 10 years,” Thunder General Manager Will Smith told website NJ.com. “His presence at Arm & Hammer Park or in the community was the epitome of the wholesome family entertainment for which we strive.”
The dog, whose full name was Chase That Golden Thunder, started with the team in 2002.
“Chase was there a long time. He put a lot of smiles on people’s faces,” Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain told CBS Sports.
