Tracy Morgan, one of several stars in the NBC ensemble comedy “30 Rock,” is recovering from a kidney transplant.
The 42-year-old actor will miss a few episodes of the series, which will next air in March, but expects to return to work soon, his publicist said in a statement on Monday, which was quoted in a CBC News report.
“Tracy is doing well and taking some much-needed time to recover after the surgery,” said his publicist. “He is looking forward to going back to work after the holidays.”
Morgan, a native of Atlanta who has suffered from diabetes for 15 years, had surgery on Dec. 10. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to kidney failure, heart disease, blindness, amputations, and death. Morgan told Time magazine that he did not take his illness seriously when he was first diagnosed, four years ago.
During the first season of “30 Rock,” another member of the cast, Grizz Chapman, had a kidney transplant and is a national spokesman for the U.S. Kidney Foundation, according to Entertainment Weekly.
