Many fans of Douglas Adams will be toting around towels to honor his signature story, ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.’ In the classic science fiction book, the main hitchhiker in the book Arthur Dent hitch around space with his towel as a key travel item. The towel is recommended by the Hitchhiker’s Guide, a sophisticated microcomputer with the answers to any question the galaxy has to offer, sporting the “friendly” words “Don’t Panic” on its cover.
The towel day official website has listed various activities for science fiction fans who want to hitch around full force for the special day. Towel Day observers are encouraged to take photos and make videos and post them online. Flickr and Youtube are both collecting images and videos from Douglas Adams fans with their towels that go from plain to spacey.
