The cobra from the Bronx Zoo that triggered a fake Twitter account with millions of followers after its disappearance from the zoo was made public, will be getting a name soon. The Bronx Zoo and the New York Daily News’ joint call for name ideas ended at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 4 with more than 28,000 submissions.
The top five names released later in the afternoon were: Agnes, a Greek name for pure or holy; Amaunet, a goddess in Ancient Egyptian religion; Cleopatra, the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt that supposedly killed herself with an Egyptian cobra; Subira, Egyptian for “patience,” and Mia. The cobra’s name will be selected from these five. Votes can be sent on the Zoo’s official website, and the winning entry will be announced on Thursday, April 7.
