TJ Lavin, the BMX rider, was critically injured during a Las Vegas competition while he was performing a trick on the night of Oct. 14, according to TMZ.com
Lavin, a veteran rider, was qualifying for the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas.
The 33-year-old flew over a dirt ramp and attempted a high-risk stunt but his feet did not reach the pedals and he was launched in the air. As a result, he was knocked unconscious.
Lavin’s crew rushed over to assist him, but he was unresponsive.
TMZ reports that he was taken to a hospital nearby and was placed into a medically-induced coma to reduce brain swelling.
Lavin, the host of MTV’s “The Challenge,” has won two gold medals and one silver in the X Games.
