‘We Are The World’ Remake Upcoming

Legendary music producer Quincy Jones, and singer/songwriter Lionel Richie, are said to be teaming up for a 25th anniversary remake of the hugely popular song “We are the World.” Originally co-written by Richie and the late Michael Jackson in 1985 for the cause of famine relief in Africa, the remake is focusing its support this time on Haiti. While details do not appear final, reports indicate various artists are being invited to a special gathering during Grammy weekend to record the song. The Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, Jan. 31.

Hollywood Icon Dies


Screen and stage actress Jean Simmons, 80, who played opposite such film greats as Marlon Brando in “Guys and Dolls” and Sir Lawrence Olivier in “Hamlet” died last Friday after a battle with lung cancer. A British native, Simmons moved to Hollywood in 1950 and was married and divorced twice to actor Stuart Granger and director Richard Brooks, respectively.

Former ‘Idol’ Contestant Welcomes Baby


Remembered for his long hair and smooth voice, “American Idol” season 4 runner-up Bo Bice, and his wife Caroline, welcomed their third son last Thursday. Baby Ean Jacob weighing in at 8.5 pounds joins brothers Caleb James, 17 months, and Aidan Michael, 4. Bice is currently on tour, with upcoming dates in Virginia, Maryland, and his home state of Alabama.

Oscar Nominations Coming Soon!


The Hollywood awards season is gearing up for the biggest of them all—the Oscars. On Feb. 2 all eyes will be waiting with anticipation to see who has been nominated for the prestigious award. Favorites expected to get a nod include Sandra Bullock and Gabby Sidibie for Best Actress; Jeff Bridges and George Clooney for Best Actor; and “Avatar” and “Precious: Based On The Novel Push By Sapphire” for best picture. The Oscars will be hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin and televised live on ABC March 7.
