The Good Wife season 6 is set to premiere on Sunday, September 21 and fans are wondering what to expect.
The first episode of the season, titled “The Line,” will see Alicia adamant in her refusal to run for State’s Attorney despite Eli’s attempts to persuade her to launch a campaign.
Also, as Diane considers joining Florrick/Agos as partner, an internal crisis threatens to destroy the firm, according to the official episode description.
Season 5 started with Alicia, Carey, and a handful of other associates forming their own firm, and many of the episodes saw that firm and Lockhart/Gardner pitted against each other.

But Will Gardner’s death late in the season--which stunned fans--prompted Alicia to reconnect with Diane. She also pushed her husband away while convincing Finn Polmar to run for state’s attorney. But the season ended with Alicia being asked to run for the position.
“What we like is living in the reality of this invite from Eli for Alicia to run for state’s attorney, and her going through the motions of whether it’s a good idea or not,” Robert King told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because, first of all, I don’t like people who jump at politics; it’s better that they’re reluctantly dragged into it. Also, there’s a lot of issues. What’s fun for the first several episodes is seeing Alicia grappling with being a mom, being a lawyer and then finding there might be something in her where she wants to change the world — something she never realized before. Is that a thirst for power or an idealistic thirst?”
King noted that even if Alicia decides to run, she’s not prepared.
“The difference with her is there are people who are politicians who know what they’re in for. Alicia is best in our mind when she’s an underdog. So much has gone right for her — except for Will dying — her husband’s governor, she started her own firm even though it’s struggling. What’s nice is to put her into a new world where she’s a fish out of water and see how much you start to love and embrace Alicia because she doesn’t know quite what she’s doing.”
Meanwhile, negotiations between Diane and Florrick/Agos get more intense, but it’s unclear whether she will bring Kalinda with her.
“That’s one of the debates. Because of Cary’s relationship with Kalinda, it puts them in a very awkward place,” King told Entertainment Weekly.
But Taye Diggs’ character might.
“He ran the New York office, but now, with the loss of Will, the law firm is a little bit in contraction mode. One of the things is to bring Taye Diggs back from New York, and that coincides with Diane secretly wanting to leave for Florrick/Agos. She convinces him to take a look at it,” King said.
“His character, Dean, is this really polished, together lawyer who expects everybody to be professional like he is. He won’t give an opening argument without spending, you know, 180 hours on it saying exactly what he wants to the jury. That’s who he is. Very meticulous in the law, but then he goes and looks at Florrick/Agos, which is sort of like a frat house when he sees it. It is just the opposite of the responsible law firm that he expected from Diane and from Lockhart/Gardner.
“So part of it is this clash of cultures between someone who expects everybody to be the height of professionalism and what seems to be the startup kids who are running around with their hair on fire, especially with what’s going on with the other lawyers. So, yes, his character is one half of a comic culture clash.”
And Will’s death will continue to have an impact.
“Our hope is to lead into the psychological truth so that the shadow it casts on the show is the same kind of shadow that sudden death would cast over an actual person’s life. Just because there’s been a change in seasons doesn’t mean Alicia is going to have completely forgotten it, but it also doesn’t mean she’s going to live mired in it either,” Michelle King said.
“People do move forward without losing their past, and our hope is that the show will be the same.”
The description for episode 2, which will air on September 28, has also come out. The episode is titled “Trust Issues.”
“Alicia scrambles to hold onto Florrick/Agos’ biggest client as the firm continues to struggle with an internal legal crisis. Meanwhile, Diane continues to plot her move from Lockhart/Gardner and looks for partners to bring with her to the new firm”
