Teen surfer shark attack: Mikey adler was bit by a shark in Melbourne, FL on May 4, and is now recovering in a hospital.
Adler was attacked while surfing at Melbourne Beach with four friends.
Though he didn’t see the shark, he immediately felt the pain.
“His whole jaw just crammed down on my leg and right from there I kind of knew it was a shark attack,” he told ABC. “So then I was paddling in as fast as I could.”
A man with military training used a surf board leash as a tourniquet, which enabled doctors to later repair the foot through surgery.
Adler, interacting with people on Twitter, said that it’s “hard to sleep with this much pain,” that he doesn’t really remember the interview with ABC because he was on too many drugs, and that he got around 40 stitches.
