An Android, iPhone, and Web application that allows texting to any business is now available in Canada.

The TalkTo app allows users to send text messages to any business in Canada to get information, find a product, make appointments and reservations, or even call a taxi, eliminating the need for time-consuming phone calls.

With its unique platform that can be used conveniently from computers and smartphones, the free app promises a timely and accurate response to any business enquiry.

Launched and tested in Boston in September 2011, TalkTo received good reviews from local users. It was hailed as one of “25 Standout Apps for 2012” by Mashable, an online news site dedicated to covering digital culture, social media, and technology.

Word of the new technology soon reached Matrix Partners, a U.S.-based private equity investment firm which signed a $3 million funding agreement with TalkTo.

After expanding across the U.S., TalkTo has now come north of the border and works with all Canadian businesses.

“Texting businesses should be as easy as texting your friends,” TalkTo CEO Stuart Levinson said in a press release.

“By bringing TalkTo to Canada, we are saving Canadians from the hassle of calling businesses and being put on hold.”

Since configuring each business with the TalkTo network would be not only be time-consuming but costly, the app instead uses a team that relays messages sent to different businesses by email, text message, or good old-fashioned phone call.

The relay centre operates around the clock, which is handy for those whose schedules conflict with common business hours. Simply send the business a message and TalkTo will deliver a response once the business is open.

Average response time sits around five minutes during business hours. Convenience seems to be the app’s claim to fame, saving time and costly mobile minutes for users.

Businesses that are interested in the application are able to have their information included in TalkTo’s database, if not already listed. Businesses can also customize how they receive consumers’ inquiries, whether by email, text message, or phone call.
