Summertime brings change in many things; both old renditions and new trends pop up at the peak of this summer season to keep you looking as hot as the temperatures.

One trend that has caught my eye for this season is the balayage hair highlighting technique.

Balayage isn’t necessarily a new trend, but while hair chalk has been overdone and ombré outdated, balayage welcomes a whole new meaning to hot summer highlights.

What is “balayage”, exactly? Meaning “to sweep” in French, balayage highlighting is done by brushing color onto the hair in sweeping motions for natural looking, sun kissed hair color. Vertically sweeping color along distinct pieces then mimics the suns own work by highlighting the hair in places the sun naturally would (for example, face framing highlights).

In addition to this natural look, balayage is low-maintenance and, unlike ombré, looks great on both straightand curled hair. Not only that, but those highlights will also lighten naturally from the sun; why pay for a touch-up when you can step outside for a few hours? Ditch the ombré band wagon this season and opt for balayage hair coloring for hair as unique as you are!
