A new travel warning has been issued by the U.S. State Department regarding American citizens’ travel to North Korea.

Issued May 16, the warning “strongly urges U.S. citizens to avoid all travel to North Korea due to serious risk of arrest and long-term detention.”

The warning says 14 US citizens have been detained in the isolated country over the past decade.

“North Korea’s system of law enforcement,” continued the statement, “imposes unduly harsh sentences, including for actions that in the United States would not be considered crimes.”
