Spider-Man and the Lizard may clash in an upcoming film based off the webbed superhero, according to MTV News this week.
Actor Rhys Ilfans, who may have already signed on to the film according to MTV, would play Dr. Curt Connors.
In the Marvel comic, Connors loses his arm during the war while he is attempting to save injured infantrymen and attempts to come up with a way to regenerate the missing limb. He looks into the regeneration of reptiles as a potential cure and makes a serum.
Connors experiments with the serum and subsequently turns himself into a bipedal reptilian humanoid to become the Lizard, one of Spider-Man’s oldest and most well-known villains.
The Lizard is a completely different entity than Connors, and does not remember his wife or Spider-Man. It attacks mindlessly, like a reptile would.
Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) is slated to direct the film and production will begin in December. The film will be released in theaters on July 3, 2012 in 3D. Andrew Garfield will play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the series reboot.
