Sony unveiled a new line of 3D technological items in South Africa Thursday titled “3D World Created By Sony.” The items were part of a display that featured a new 3D LED screen along with other Sony 3D technology.

Sony describes their new 3D technology as “cutting edge” and it is being used to broadcast the 2010 FIFA World Cup in 3D for the first time in the event’s history.

The 28-inch 3D TV will broadcast highlights from each of the 25 soccer matches being held during the one month contest.

The “3D World Created By Sony” was opened at Nelsen Mandela Park in the Sandton City shopping center in Johannesburg, South Africa. The pavilion contains a 280-inch 3D TV with an LED screen. The promotion is part of the pre game festivities for the FIFA World Cup being held in Johannesburg from June 11th to July 11th.

“3D World Created By Sony” is open to the open to the public and free of charge. The hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until the 12th of July.

Viewings of the Fifa 2010 South Africa trailer will be shown in 3D along with Shakira’s new video “Waka Waka” which features the musical group Freshlyground. There will also be a multitude of local African performers putting on shows in the shopping center.

In separate locations Sony will be premiering a new 3D home projector that will allow users to watch 3D images on large screens as well as plain walls.
