NEW YORK—Six public servants were given Sloan Public Service Awards on Wednesday evening during a ceremony at Cooper Union.
The winners are:
Sarah Carroll, director of preservation, Landmarks Preservation Commissioner
Jefrick R. Dean, senior bus operator, New York City Transit Authority
Donna Leno Gordon, director, Behavioral Health Nursing, Coney Island Hospital
James McConnell, assistant commissioner for strategic data, Office of Emergency Management
Ruth E. Stark, distinguished professor of chemistry and acting dean of Science, City College
Phil Weinberg, principal, High School of Telecommunications Arts and Technology, Department of Educational
The six were chosen out of 250,000 city employees who were eligible. Qualities such as extraordinary service, commitment beyond the call of duty, and willingness to take risk when needed are embodied in award winners.
The awards have been given out since 1973, and have been supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, philanthropic, nonprofit, grant-making institution based in New York City, since 1985.
