Sir Richard Branson could be the mystery tipper who has been leaving unbelievable tips at several restaurants around Ogden, Utah over the weekend.
The three huge tips totaled $7,000, with the biggest being a $5,000 tip on August 23 on a check just over $214 at a local bar named Brewski’s.
The next night a $1,000 tip was left on a $49 bill at another bar, Alleged.
The two tips followed a $1,000 tip left to a girl who was working the beer cart at a golf course in Eden, according to the Standard-Examiner. The girl was crying after she received the tip.
The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday that sources told it that Branson, owner of Virgin Mobile and a billionaire, was in town over the weekend. He may have been in Ogden, a town 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, for the Summer Series, an annual conference for entrepreneurs.
Neither Branson or his representatives responded to the Daily Mail’s inquiries.
Jared Allen, owner of Alleged, where one of the $1,000 tips was given, said that his brother, who was working the floor that evening, clarified the amount with the customer several times.
“He wanted to make sure the guy wasn’t intoxicated,” he said. A member of the party approached Allen’s brother and thanked him for making sure about the tip.
