Simone de Beauvoir, a late French writer, was honored with a Google Doodle on the date of her 106th birthday.

Beauvoir would have turned 106 on Thursday if she were still alive.

Beauvior was born in Paris in 1908 and studied philosophy.

She was perhaps best known for her work “The Second Sex,” which detailed the treatment of women throughout history.

She also published novels.

Beauvior was a leader of the existentialist movement.

She died at age 78.
