VANCOUVER, Canada—Robert Lamblin’s wife’s birthday falls on Christmas Day, and this year as a gift he took her to see Shen Yun Performing Arts at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

The gift was a big hit with Mrs. Lamblin.

“It’s the best present you can ever give somebody for their birthday,” she said after Shen Yun’s first of five shows in Vancouver on Jan 10.

“It’s a show that is so colourful. The costumes are beautiful, and the music. It just brings you to a different time … you just feel a part of it. It’s just beautiful, just spectacular.”

The couple own a wind turbine company which has produced a new prototype that is “going to hit the market very shortly,” said Mr. Lamblin.

Like his wife, he was impressed with Shen Yun’s portrayal of China’s traditional heritage, drawing on myths and legends from the Middle Kingdom’s long and rich history.

“It was wonderful,” he said. “The choreography and the costumes were just tremendous and I thought that they had so many variable presentations in trying to give the 5,000 [years of] history of China.”

He also praised Shen Yun’s unique digital backdrops, which are animated to enhance the piece being played out on stage.

“By utilizing the backdrop and bringing in the characters off the screen and onto the [stage], I thought was ingenious. That was just ingenious, so we were both just in awe with that performance and that presentation. We enjoyed it very much.”

Shen Yun presents an entirely new lineup each year, and Mrs. Lamblin said she would like to see the show next year again.

“I would definitely recommend him giving me another ticket next year to Shen Yun.”

“We got our monies worth,” said Mr. Lamblin.
