SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Milan Knezevic, an executive with an international corporation, has travelled to China a few times and seen a variety of performances.

But on Thursday evening at the Proctors Theatre, he saw a performance that stood out from all the rest that he had seen before.

“Very nice, … I enjoyed something amazing,” Mr. Knezevic said. “This is fantastic, probably the best spectacular I have ever seen.”

He was referring to Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New York-based classical Chinese and dance company.

Founded in 2006, Shen Yun was formed by a group of elite overseas Chinese artists who aim to revive China’s 5,000-year-old divinely inspired culture.

“For 5,000 years divine culture flourished in the land of China. Humanity’s treasure was nearly lost, but through breathtaking music and dance, Shen Yun is bringing back this glorious culture,” reads the Shen Yun website.

Noting this long history in China, Mr. Knezevic said he hoped that the traditions of the Middle Kingdom will be preserved.

“This is a wonderful nation, 5,000 years [of] history … just continue the same,” he said.
