FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts returned to Florida tonight with the first of four performances at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Feb. 10–12.

Karen Kaye, a psychotherapist, was inspired. “I thought it was magnificent, brilliant, symmetrical, cultural, inviting. I love the story that it told. I would see it again next year,” she said.

Speaking of the spiritual aspect of the performance, she said: “Love it! It’s what I’m about—meditation, spirituality, reincarnation, fate. It was all part of the story, and I enjoyed it very, very much.”

She said she felt absolutely inspired. “I liked at the end that good outweighs evil. That was very enlightening and very uplifting.”

Shen Yun’s mission is to restore China’s 5,000-year-old traditional culture, said to be divinely inspired. After more than 60 years of communist rule, the traditional culture has been all but eradicated in China.

“However, the deeper spiritual core of the ancient culture, with its values of benevolence, honor, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity, as well as a reverence for the gods and the heavens, cannot be destroyed,” says the Shen Yun website.

Shen Yun has three touring companies, each with its own orchestra. The companies tour simultaneously, performing in cities in North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia. Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company will perform in Florida this year.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Shen Yun has been on tour in Florida, with performances in Orlando, Jacksonville, Saint Petersburg, Sarasota, and Fort Lauderdale in previous years. This year, for the first time, the tour will include Tampa, with performances scheduled for the Straz Center for the Performing Arts on March 3 and 4.

In honor of the occasion, the Falun Dafa Association of Florida, the sponsoring organization, received welcome letters from federal and local Florida officials: Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Rep. Ted Deutch, Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. Seiler, Broward County Mayor John E. Rodstrom Jr., and North Miami Beach Mayor George Vallejo.
